No projects. No downtime. Just five things you can action this April.
It’s coming up to Easter weekend, and while you’re winding down or tucking into chocolate, cyber threats aren’t taking a break.
For many businesses, the run-up to summer is packed, growth planning, holidays, audits, and trying to keep everything ticking. But before it all ramps up, now’s the perfect time for a quick IT sanity check.
You don’t need to rip out your infrastructure or sign off a 6-month roadmap. These five fixes take minimal effort, and they can seriously reduce your risk.
Think of it as an Easter spring clean for your IT, except instead of dusting, you’re tightening security and getting back control.
Ex-employees often leave behind accounts that no one shuts down properly, especially if they had access to cloud apps, shared mailboxes, or remote tools. These become ghost doors into your business.
Audit all user accounts (email, VPN, software platforms, etc.) and deactivate anything no longer in use.
Make it part of your leaver process.
Weak or reused passwords are one of the top ways attackers get in, and phishing emails are only getting smarter.
Enable MFA for all staff, especially for email, cloud services, and anything that holds sensitive data. It’s one of the simplest ways to prevent 99% of unauthorised access.
Outdated software is a goldmine for attackers. You might be updating Windows or OSX, but what about your router, printers, Chrome extensions, or third-party tools?
Set up a regular “update sweep”. A quick check across your devices and platforms to make sure everything’s on the latest version.
The classic “Everyone – Full Control” folder.
Too many businesses share too much, for too long, with too many people.
Review your file shares and access permissions. Make sure sensitive files are locked down and only available to those who actually need them. It’s a compliance win, too.
You’ve got a backup, great, but when was the last time you tested a restore?
Imagine you lose access to your main server or cloud drive… can you recover?
Do a test restore. Make sure your backups are actually working, and that someone knows how to bring things back quickly if the worst happens.
Spring is about clearing out the old and starting fresh, and IT is no exception.
You don’t need to rebuild everything. But small actions now can save big headaches later.
Plus, with holidays around the corner, you want confidence that your systems won’t fall apart when half the team is off.
Let us take a look at your IT.
We’ll highlight what matters, give clear next steps, or just get it sorted for you.
